We all know that rust is the main issue and worry with owning an MX5, and the reality is there is no miracle cure, all we can do is try to protect our pride of joys as much as we can, in an ideal world we would all keep our cars in a dry garage, only take them outside in the dry months and never take them out when there is salt on the roads.

But the reality is most of us can’t do that and need to use our cars in all weathers without the worry that they are going to rust away as a result, so with that in mind the solution is to have us carry out one of our underseal procedures.


Our extensive knowledge of where the rust issues are on an MX5 puts us in a unique position to be able provide your car with excellent rust prevention treatments, using our knowledge of the MX5s internal structure to ensure we get those treatments to the areas that need it the most, during our rust repair works we can often see that an MX5 has received waxoil or cavity wax treatments in the past that hasn’t got to the important areas due to the person applying it not knowing the internal structure.

We use quality products from Dinitrol and Bilt Hamber, our process involves lifting the car up on one of our ramps, removing the road wheels, undertrays and arch liners. The first process is for removing any failing existing underseal, either using our Monti machine or angle grinder wire wheel to clean up all areas as required, along with a wire brush for the more delicate requirements. If required we will mask items such as stainless steel exhaust systems and/or coil over suspension parts before applying Bilt Hamber rust treatments, Dinitrol underseal, then Bilt Hamber cavity wax, allowing to dry before refitting arch liners and removing masking.

We like to have a car for at least 3 days to carry out this process, our prices for all MX5 models are detailed in the table above, however these are guide prices and vary a little from job to job due to car condition as well as customer needs. We can of course go further than this (Full Underside Restoration) and remove all the original underseal and returning to bare metal, before then applying seam sealers, anti corrosion coatings and finally new underseal, however this is very labour intensive and costly, but we are happy to discuss this if it is something you feel your car requires
